Over 300 Ramadan Nigehban Dastarkhwans set up across Punjab

LAHORE – On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, more than 300 Ramadan Nigehban Dastarkhwans have been established across the province with the support of philanthropists and various organisations, facilitating collective iftar for hundreds of thousands of people during holy month of Ramadan. The initiative has been launched under the Punjab government patronage to ensure that deserving and underprivileged citizens can break their fast with dignity during Ramadan. CM Maryam appreciated the contributions of charitable individuals and institutions for their cooperation in organising the Dastarkhwans. She said Ramadan is a month of compassion, empathy and brotherhood, stressing that supporting the needy is a shared social responsibility. “Serving those in need is a form of true worship,” she said, adding that the government will continue such welfare initiatives throughout Ramazan. The Dastarkhwans, set up in major cities and districts across Punjab, offered a variety of food items including qorma, biryani, Rooh Afza, pakoras, samosas and other traditional refreshments. Large numbers of citizens attended the collective iftar arrangements in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad. Thousands also participated in Rawalpindi, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur as well as Chiniot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujrat and Jhang. Similarly, major turnout was reported in Attock, Jhelum, Kasur and Khanewal while arrangements were made in Kot Addu, Layyah and Mandi Bahauddin. Senior officials joined citizens at iftar gatherings in Murree, Muzaffargarh, Okara and Narowal. Strong participation was also witnessed in Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Vehari, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Bhalwal and Sargodha. The officials said the Ramadan Nigehban Dastarkhwans would continue operating throughout the holy month to provide free iftar meals to fasting individuals across Punjab.
