KARACHI: Over 2,800 students were awarded degrees at the 15th Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) convocation held on the varsity’s Ojha campus cricket ground on Wednesday.
The graduates included 330 DMC students, 145 students of Dow International Medical College, 94 students of Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Institute of Oral Health Sciences, 49 students of Dow International Dental College, 52 students of Dow Dental College, 149 students of Dow College of Pharmacy, 26 students of School of Dental Care Professionals and 83 students of Dow College of Biotechnology.
Other graduating students include 29 from BS Optometry, 92 from BS PM&R, 20 from BS Radiological Technology, 101 from BS Nursing, 16 master of health profession education, 14 master of public health, 11 EMBA, three PhD and 10 MPhil students and two MD.
According to officials, out of the total 66 gold, silver and bronze medals, male students received only one medal each, whereas female students secured 21 medals each in gold, silver and bronze.
All 13 Best Graduate Awards were won by girls. The Best Graduate Award of Dow Medical College (DMC), named after the late Prof Muhammad Shafee Qureshi, was awarded to Tanveer Fatima.
M. Hamza Siddiqui of Dow Institute of Medical Technology received the only gold medal for boys. In her speech, DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Nazli Hussain urged students to continue their hard work and passion for learning.
“It is important that respect for human life and adherence to ethical values remain our most valuable assets in the journey towards professional excellence,” she remarked. Highlighting DMC’s progress, Prof Hussain said the college had completed 80 years of its academic journey, noting that the institution was among the country’s oldest and most prestigious educational establishments and had earned global recognition in the field of medicine.
