Fire partially destroys forest in Karak

LAKKI MARWAT: A fire destroyed portion of a forest in a mountainous area of Karak district the other day.

A Rescue 1122 official said on Friday that the fire suddenly broke out in the mountainous range in Lakkanra area in the evening and spread within no time.

“A team of firefighters along with fire trucks was immediately dispatched to the area to extinguish the blaze,” the official said.

He said that district emergency officer Atif Sardar supervised the firefighting operation wherein local residents also assisted the rescue personnel. “The blaze damaged the forest,” he said. He said that after hectic efforts the fire was brought under control.

MAN KILLED

A man was killed over a murder enmity in the Tajazai area of Lakki Marwat on Friday. Police said Samar Abbas, 38, his brother Latifur Rehman, 40, and Qismatullah were attacked by their rivals at Tajazai Adda. They said the attackers escaped the scene after the attack.

Rehman, who remained unhurt in the attack, told the Ghaznikhel police that when they reached near a private school located at Tajazai Adda, their rivals, Sharifullah, Ejaz, Saifur Rehman and Shahid, opened fire, killing Abbas instantly.

He said Qismatullah was injured in the attack. The body and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The police registered a case against the suspected killers under different sections of Pakistan Penal Code and began an investigation.

AFGHAN FAMILIES REPATRIATED

Several Afghan families were repatriated to their homeland from Lakki Marwat district on Friday.

Additional deputy commissioner Habibullah Wazir and additional assistant commissioner Ikramullah Khan saw them off at the Gandi Chowk near Serai Naurang.

They met with the heads of Afghan families and assured that the district administration would ensure their repatriation in a dignified manner in line with the policy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The district administration officials also checked availability of vehicles, security arrangements and other facilities for the returning Afghan families.

The additional deputy commissioner directed the relevant agencies to complete the process of Afghan families’ return to their country in a peaceful and dignified manner.

He also directed the relevant authorities to provide the families with all facilities so they could reach their homeland without trouble.
