A special court on Saturday sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to imprisonment and fines after finding them guilty of corruption-related charges.
According to the verdict of Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, Imran has been sentenced to a total of 17 years’ imprisonment. He was awarded 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) and seven years under Section 5/2/47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Bushra Bibi was also sentenced to a total of 17 years’ imprisonment under the same provisions.
The two were indicted in the case, which pertains to the purchase of an expensive Bulgari jewellery set at a throwaway price, last year in December.
