RAWALPINDI: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Tuesday described the politics of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) as being on the wrong track and advised them to use dialogue to resolve issues instead of resorting to protests.
The governor urged PTI to refrain from criticising state institutions and to come to the table. He said that we must end the politics of chaos and adopt positive politics to put the country on a path of development.
Mr Khan was speaking to the media after addressing a Christmas celebration at the Governor’s Annexe.
Referencing historical democratic developments, he highlighted that iconic leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nelson Mandela achieved success through dialogue rather than confrontation.
He stated that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be the “next prime minister of the country” and that he will bring socio-economic change to society. He said that the young leadership of PPP will lead the country on the path of development.
“PPP chairman is set to lead Punjab, with a series of high-profile visits and conventions planned for January, as the party builds momentum ahead of future elections,” he expressed. He said Bilawal’s recent three-day visit to Lahore was historic as prominent political figures joined the PPP during the trip.
The governor announced that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would return to Lahore next month, followed by major public gatherings in Faisalabad and Sialkot, where several former MNAs and MPAs would formally join the party. Additional conventions for the PSF and minority communities will also be held at the Governor’s House in Lahore, he added.
He emphasised that the PPP has deep roots in Punjab, a province where the party was originally founded. He asserted that the party is quickly regaining ground in the province and is poised to deliver a strong performance in the next general elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said he would suggest to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to initiate stipends for religious leaders belonging to different faiths. He stated that all religions in Pakistan enjoy complete religious freedom.
Furthermore, he noted that the PPP has always played a constructive role in securing rights for minorities. He said that the PPP is the only political party to have appointed minorities to major positions.
“Whether it is the Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly or the Senate election, the PPP gave importance to minorities,” he said.
“The rights of minorities are legally protected in the Constitution of Pakistan, and we are committed to ensuring they receive their due rights. He added that the doors of the Governor’s House are open to everyone,” he concluded.
