Pakistan beat the United States of America by 32 runs in the 12th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Colombo on Tuesday evening. Chasing a competitive 191-run target for victory, the USA managed to reach 158/8 in the allocated 20 overs. Shubham Ranjane was the highest scorer for the USA, who made 51 off 30 balls, hitting three fours and as many maximums. Shayan Jahangir made 49 off 34 balls, laced with five fours and two maximums. Milind Kumar contributed 29 off 22 balls, and Andries Gous 13 off 13 balls. No other batter could enter the double figures. Usman Tariq bagged three wickets and Shadab Khan two, while Mohammad Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi took one wicket each. Sahibzada Farhan was named player of the match for his valuable contribution with the bat. After being put into bat by the USA skipper Monank Patel, Pakistan reached 190/9 in their quota of 20 overs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan was the top scorer for the green shirts with 73 off 41 balls, hitting six fours and five huge sixes. Babar Azam contributed 46 off 32 balls, laced with four fours and one maximum. Shadab Khan made a quick-fire 30 off just 12 balls with the help of four fours and one maximum at the backend of the innings to help the side reach a competitive score. Saim Ayub contributed 19 off 17 balls with the help of one four and two maximums to give a good start to his side. Shadley van Schalkwyk bagged four wickets and Saurabh Netravalkar, Mohammad Mohsin and Harmeet Singh one each, while Usman Khan and Abrar Ahmed were run out. This was the first match under lights at this ground. Green shirts have won their first match against the Netherlands. In their first encounter of the tournament, the USA pushed host India to the brink in a losing cause.
