ISLAMABAD – The federal government has initiated preparations for a major reform in the country’s electricity and gas tariff system. Under the new model, a slab system will be introduced based on household income rather than usage. This change aims to allocate subsidies according to the income level of households, making it more equitable. The reforms are being finalized in line with commitments made with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Current Electricity Tariff Slabs 2026 For protected domestic consumers, the tariff is fixed at Rs10.54 per unit for monthly consumption between 1 and 100 units, while usage ranging from 101 to 200 units would continue to be charged at Rs13.01 per unit. In the case of non-protected domestic consumers, the proposed tariff has been set at Rs22.44 per unit for consumption of up to 100 units and Rs28.91 per unit for usage between 101 and 200 units. NEPRA further recommended that electricity charges for consumers using 201 to 300 units per month remain at Rs33.10 per unit. For higher consumption brackets, the tariff is proposed at Rs37.99 per unit for 301 to 400 units, Rs40.22 per unit for 401 to 500 units, Rs41.62 per unit for 501 to 600 units, and Rs42.76 per unit for 601 to 700 units. For domestic consumers using more than 700 units of electricity per month, the tariff has been proposed to remain at Rs47.69 per unit.
