ISLAMABAD – The government has introduced additional fixed charges in electricity bills, which are being collected from February 2026. Officials said the new fixed charges apply to both protected and non-protected consumers. For protected consumers, the monthly fixed charge is set at Rs 200 for up to 100 units of consumption and Rs 300 for up to 200 units. For non-protected consumers, the fixed charges are Rs 275 for up to 100 units, Rs 300 for up to 200 units, Rs 350 for up to 300 units, Rs 400 for up to 400 units, and Rs 500 for up to 500 units. Furthermore, for non-protected consumers using up to 600 units, the fixed charge has been increased to Rs 675 per month, following the recent adjustment. Electricity consumers in Pakistan may see another rise in power costs, as authorities have proposed an increase under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism. The hike could add to the financial strain on households already facing rising living expenses. The Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA) has filed a request with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking an additional Rs 1.64 per unit for February. NEPRA is set to hold a hearing on the proposal on March 31, after which a final decision will be announced.
