ISLAMABAD – A passenger at Islamabad International Airport was injured after attempting to escape by jumping from Level 2. The individual, identified as Mirza Nouman Saeed from Rawalpindi, pretended to go to the restroom from the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) holding area before making the leap. The passenger fell near Belt Number 2 and sustained serious injuries. The airport’s PIA medical team promptly responded and transferred him to the trauma center for immediate care. Airport authorities confirmed that the passenger received initial medical treatment before being transferred to PIMS hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, FIA is considering a change in how it handles Pakistani citizens deported from abroad due to illegal migration attempts. This shift is part of a broader effort to clamp down on human trafficking networks operating within the country. Reports said a new proposal under review suggests that deported individuals will only be considered victims if they fully cooperate with authorities. Cooperation would involve providing detailed and verifiable information about the smugglers and networks that helped facilitate their illegal migration. Officials argue that automatically classifying deportees as victims has, in some cases, allowed them to reconnect with human traffickers. Under the new policy, those who fail to disclose information about the smugglers could face investigations as suspects rather than being treated as victims. Several FIA regional offices have reportedly endorsed these changes, indicating that the revised approach is likely to be implemented soon. The proposed policy changes come in the wake of several tragic migration incidents, including a December 2024 disaster near the Greek island of Gavdos, where multiple Pakistani migrants died when their boat capsized.
