Path to peace

2026-03-05 - 21:53

PAKISTAN has long advocated for peace and stability in the region, consistently urging Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being used as a safe haven for terrorist organizations. However, these repeated calls fell on deaf ears, with the Afghan Taliban regime continuing to support and harbor groups like TTP. This persistent disregard for Pakistan’s security concerns left Pakistan with no choice but to take decisive action. In his recent remarks, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Asim Munir emphasized that true peace between the two nations can only be achieved if the Afghan Taliban renounce their support for terrorism. His visit to South Waziristan, where he reviewed the operational preparedness of forces along the western border, highlighted the ongoing threat posed by terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan. The CDF reiterated that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to neutralize this threat. Undoubtedly, operation Ghazab Lil-Haq has achieved significant success. The New York Times reported that Pakistan’s forces successfully targeted Afghanistan’s Bagram Airbase, one of the country’s most strategically important military sites, destroying vital infrastructure, including an aircraft hangar and two warehouses. This operation’s success is a testament to the professionalism and capability of Pakistan’s armed forces, who have proven time and again their ability to deliver a bloody nose to their enemies. Political advisor, Rana Sanaullah also confirmed that Pakistan’s objectives in Operation Ghazab Lil-Haq are “almost achieved” and that the mission is being further fortified. The clarity of Pakistan’s stance is unmistakable: terrorist groups must be eradicated and any support for these organizations must cease. It is not merely a matter of national security but one of regional stability. The Taliban regime must recognize the consequences of its actions and the potential for long-term chaos, uncertainty and international isolation if it continues on its current path. Afghanistan’s people, already suffering under the weight of a fragile state, deserve better. The path for the Afghan Taliban is clear: cease supporting terrorism, focus on improving the lives of their people and engage in efforts that bring peace rather than perpetuate violence.
