ISLAMABAD – As Ramadan 2026 begins in Pakistan, updated Zakaat rates for gold and silver have been released to help Muslims calculate the amount which will be distributed among deserving individuals. Zakat is an obligatory act of charity in Islam, constituting the third of the five pillars. It requires eligible Muslims to give 2.5 percent of their excess wealth—such as savings, gold, silver, and business holdings—every year to those in need. This obligation applies only if their total assets surpass a certain minimum value, known as the Nisab threshold. Per Tola Gold Zakat Rate For 24-karat gold, the rate per tola has been set at Rs500,000, resulting in a Zakaat amount of Rs12,500 per tola and Rs1,071.50 per gram. Similarly, 21-karat gold has been priced at Rs485,300 per tola, with Zakaat calculated at Rs12,132.50 per tola and Rs1,040 per gram. For 18-karat gold, the per tola rate stands at Rs375,000, translating into a Zakaat liability of Rs9,375 per tola and Rs803.75 per gram. Per Tola Silver Zakat Rate Meanwhile, silver has been valued at Rs10,500 per tola, with Zakaat fixed at Rs262.50 per tola and Rs22.50 per gram. Minimum Nisab Amount Earlier, the federal government has announced minimum threshold or Nisab for Zakat deduction from bank accounts. It has fixed the Nisab at Rs503,529 for Ramadan 2026, much higher than the previous year’s Rs179,689. People having savings bank accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts and other similar accounts will be charged for Zakat if they have Rs503,529 in their account, Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security said in a statement. Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth an individual must possess to be required to give this charitable donation. All Savings and PLS accounts with less than the Nisab amount will be exempted from Zakat deduction.
