More intermittent rain is likely in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday evening and night, and on Tuesday. Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in the upper districts during the period. Synoptic Situation: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave is prevailing over western Pakistan. It will likely persist over the upper parts till tomorrow. Forecast: Under these conditions, cold and cloudy weather is likely in most districts of the province on Monday evening and night. Rain with snowfall over the hills is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber, Hangu, Parachinar, Bajaur, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan. Heavy falls with moderate to intense snowfall are also likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. On Tuesday, more rain with snowfall over the hills is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Malakand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, and Swabi. Heavy falls with moderate to intense snowfall are also likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, and Battagram during night hours. Cold and dry weather is likely elsewhere in the province. Impacts: Heavy snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, and Galiyat. There are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in the hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Temperatures: Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03°C and 05°C on Tuesday and between 04°C and 06°C on Wednesday. Past Weather: Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 2 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in the upper districts. However, rain and snowfall occurred at a few places. Rainfall (mm): Chitral 09, Upper Dir 05 Kalam remained the coldest place in the province, where the temperature dropped 08°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Parachinar was recorded at -07°C, in Malam Jabba at -05°C, and in Nathia Gali at -04°C. In Peshawar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 04°C.
