Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather: Rain, moderate to heavy snowfall expected

Rain with moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday and Tuesday, with occasional breaks. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely approach southwestern Balochistan tonight. It will likely grip the western and upper parts of the country on Monday. Under these conditions, cold and dry weather is expected in most districts of the province, while freezing and partly cloudy weather is expected in the upper districts on Sunday night. Cold winds are also likely during the period. On Monday and Tuesday, intermittent rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber, Hangu, Parachinar, Bajaur, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan. Heavy falls with moderate to intense snowfall are also likely in the upper districts during night hours. Heavy snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Shangla. There are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02°C and 04°C on Monday and Tuesday and between 03°C and 05°C on Wednesday. Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while freezing weather prevailed in the upper districts during the last 24 hours. Kalam and Nathia Gali remained the coldest places in the province, where the temperature dropped 09°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Parachinar was recorded at -08°C and in Malam Jabba at -06°C. In Peshawar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C.
