Petrol prices in Pakistan see massive jump – Per litre cost in Feb 2026

ISLAMABAD – Petrol prices in Pakistan witnessed a big increase for second fortnight of February 2025 as the federal government aims at the generating more revenue ahead of the third review of the International Monetary Fund for a loan agreement. The Petroleum Division has issued a notification in this regard after the revised prices were approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had sent a summary to the division, recommending an increase of up to Rs7.32 per litre for second half of February 2026. New Per Litre Petrol Price in Pakistan The price of petrol has been increased by Rs5, bringing the new price to Rs258.17 per litre. Additionally, the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs7.32, making the new price Rs275.70 per liter. Reactions Over Soaring Petrol Prices Following an increase of the petroleum prices, the goods transporters association has announced a 3% increase in freight charges. Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the recent increase in petroleum product prices. The petitioner argued that the price hike would lead to a new wave of inflation. It was also claimed that the pricing of petroleum products in Pakistan is not determined transparently in line with international market rates, resulting in additional financial burdens on the public. The petitioner has requested the court to annul the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. The petition further stated that the price rise will lead to higher costs for essential goods and transportation fares.
