PTA announces ‘free calls’ for mobile users in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the provision of free calls to toll-free numbers (0800XXXXX) for all mobile users. Previously, this service was only available for fixed-line users, while mobile users were charged for calling toll-free numbers. In a statement, PTA explained that before this decision, mobile users had to pay charges for calling toll-free numbers, which led to concerns among users. The authority took notice of these concerns and decided to take necessary steps to ensure that calls to toll-free numbers are free of charge for all users. The authority also stated that it consulted all relevant stakeholders, including PTCL, National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), local loop operators, and cellular mobile operators, before making this decision. After detailed discussions and positive consultations, it was agreed that local loop (LL) toll-free number calls would now be free for all users.
