LAHORE – Punjab Airline is poised to start flight operations in April 2026, marking a new chapter in Pakistan’s aviation sector, according to reports citing the provincial government. Reports suggest that the airline will begin operations with seven aircraft in its initial phase. The airline, a provincial-owned entity, is a significant step toward bolstering Punjab’s aviation sector. Initially, Punjab Airline will focus exclusively on domestic routes for the first two years. Following this, there are plans to expand its services to international destinations. Reports suggest that the official helicopter used for Punjab Chief Minister’s travel will be incorporated into the airline’s fleet. The chief minister will use this aircraft for official travel, avoiding the need for a separate government-purchased aircraft. This strategy is designed to minimize additional costs to the national treasury. Both newly purchased and existing aircraft will be operated commercially, with the aim of ensuring profitability. The policy stipulates that whenever the chief minister travels aboard the airline, standard commercial fares will apply, ensuring both transparency and financial sustainability.
