LAHORE – The Punjab government has launched a free body transportation service for the first time, easing the burden on grieving families. The decision was approved in a special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where Emergency Services Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naseer provided a detailed briefing. The newly approved service will provide ambulance transportation for the deceased, taking bodies from hospitals directly to the homes of families at no cost. In addition to this, the government has also agreed to regulate private ambulance services and discuss fixed rates for these services. During the meeting, a plan was requested to begin government vehicle services for body transportation in large public hospitals and every tehsil across the province. Under the new initiative, each tehsil will have at least one free van available for the transportation of bodies. Families can request the service by either calling 1122 or visiting the hospital counter. To ensure efficiency, the body transportation service will be monitored through a smart management system. Additionally, the facility will extend to inter-city body transfers, offering free transport for those needing to move the deceased to other locations.
