Punjab beautification efforts speed up ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2026

LAHORE: The Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) has speeded up city beautification efforts and preparations for public fairs across districts ahead of Eid ul-Fitr 2026. Established last year to coordinate and improve the work of district horticulture agencies, the PHA is also installing decorative items across the province. These include displays for the daytime as well as illuminated structures for the night to make cities look more attractive. With the arrival of spring, district agencies have started planting seasonal flowers such as petunia, pansy, marigold and cockscomb (kalga), among others. Spring provides favourable climatic conditions that enable these varieties to flourish. In addition to floral displays, district agencies have intensified tree-washing operations to mitigate dust accumulation and help reduce air pollution levels. Tree trimming is also being carried out to maintain a neat appearance. Barren grass patches are being restored using grass fillers to improve the look of public spaces and control dust. Spring is considered an ideal period for grass maintenance, as warmer temperatures promote vigorous growth and facilitate mowing. Beyond horticultural measures, district agencies have also begun repairing and restoring public fountains as part of the overall beautification drive. In addition to these efforts, PHA has also planned public fairs, or melas, to be held during Eid for the enjoyment of the public. These events will have a festive atmosphere with cultural performances, food stalls, and activities for families and children. PHA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad said the initiatives are being carried out in line with the government’s vision to promote a clean, green and visually appealing Punjab. He added that all district agencies have been directed to ensure timely completion of works before Eid and to maintain high standards of public service delivery. “These efforts are meant to ensure that families can celebrate Eid in clean, green and welcoming surroundings, and take pride in the beauty of their cities,” he added.
