LAHORE – The Punjab government has issued a new transport policy for bureaucrats, significantly expanding the entitlements for official vehicles and petrol allowances for officers across various grades. The notification, released on February 20, 2026, allows senior officials to use larger vehicles and provides increased fuel allocations, marking a major revision of the previous transport policy. Vehicles for Punjab CS, IGP Under the new guidelines, the Chief Secretary and IG Punjab are permitted to maintain three official vehicles, including models with engine capacities of 2800cc, 1800cc, and 4700cc. Each of their two vehicles will receive 800 liters of petrol per month, while there will be no limit on petrol for the 4700cc vehicle used for official duties. Previously, the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary were only allowed to use 1300cc and 1600cc vehicles with fixed fuel limits. The officers in Grade 20, 21, and 22 are now authorized to use two vehicles with engine capacities of 2800cc and 1800cc. Officers in Grades 21 and 22 will have 200 liters of petrol for personal use and unlimited petrol for official purposes, a significant increase from the prior limits. Policy for administrative secretaries The administrative secretaries in the previous policy were limited to 1300cc vehicles and 200 liters of petrol per month. For Special Secretaries and DIGs in Grades 19 and 20, the policy allows the use of 1600cc vehicles with 250 liters of petrol per month, compared to 1000–1300cc vehicles and 175 liters previously. Similarly, Additional Secretaries in Grade 19 can use 1600cc vehicles and 200 liters of petrol, up from the earlier limit of 175 liters. Entitlement for Grade-18 officers Deputy Secretaries in Grade 18 are now entitled to a 1500cc vehicle with 175 liters of petrol per month, an increase from the earlier 1000cc vehicles and 150 liters. Staff officers and section officers under the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary will use 1300cc vehicles with 150 liters of petrol per month. Ministerial staff officers in Punjab are entitled to 1300cc vehicles with 125 liters of petrol each month. The officials and analysts say the policy shows a major upgrade in administrative resources, particularly for senior officials, providing them with greater mobility and fuel allowances to carry out official duties efficiently. The provincial government emphasizes that these changes are intended to streamline official transport management and ensure that officers have the resources needed for official assignments without restrictions. The new transport policy will come into effect immediately and replaces all previous guidelines related to official vehicle use and petrol allocations for Punjab government officers.
