Punjab govt announces relief on oil and ghee prices for Ramazan

The Punjab government has decided to provide price relief on cooking oil and ghee during the holy month of Ramadan. Inflation stricken masses has taken sigh of relief after government announcement of giving relief to general public in daily use commodity. According to details, on the instructions of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab, Salma Butt, a meeting was held between Director General Punjab Food Authority AsimJaved and ghee mills owners. It was decided that a discount ranging from Rs10 to Rs16 per kilogram/liter will be offered on all ghee and cooking oil products during Ramadan. Salma Butt stated that quality oil and ghee will be available in the market at reduced prices during the blessed month. She added that if palm oil prices decrease in the future, the industry, in consultation with the authority, will provide immediate relief in prices. It has been reported that DG Punjab Food Authority AsimJaved has also sought recommendations from mill owners to further improve the quality of ghee and oil. He said there is an urgent need to introduce modern systems in the market to ensure the supply of quality ghee. She emphasized that the quality and testing process of ghee is being upgraded to meet international standards. Chairman of the Ghee Mills Association, AsjadArif, said that an ample supply of quality ghee will be ensured in the market during Ramadan. He appreciated the Punjab Food Authority’s guidance to the industry for improving oil and ghee quality and unit management. He further stated that the authority has implemented international SOPs in oil and ghee mills across Punjab, calling its measures commendable for the industry. He also thanked the Punjab Food Authority for its crackdown against counterfeiters and affirmed that the association stands shoulder to shoulder with the authority in eliminating adulteration and fraud in oil and ghee products.
