LAHORE – Punjab government has decided to establish anti-drone units in all districts of the province in a major move aimed at strengthening security and maintaining law and order. Punjab Home Department said that this will be the first time in the country’s history that anti-drone units will be set up across every district of the province. Under the plan, the anti-drone units will conduct aerial surveillance using special drone fleets to monitor sensitive areas and enhance public safety. Each district will also be equipped with an advanced anti-drone system capable of detecting and neutralising suspicious or hostile drones. The units and anti-drone systems will operate under the supervision of the respective District Police Officers (DPOs). Officials said the systems will use jamming technology to disable drones operated by hostile or miscreant elements, helping prevent potential security threats. The spokesperson said the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the police and strengthen aerial monitoring in line with modern counter-terrorism requirements. The authorities added that surveillance drones and anti-drone systems will be provided to districts according to their security needs. Meanwhile, the provincial government has already imposed a ban on flying outdoor drones under Section 144 across the province due to security concerns. The restriction applies to the general public, while law enforcement and intelligence agencies have been exempted. The citizens have been urged to strictly comply with the ban and cooperate with authorities in maintaining peace and security. The Punjab government reiterated that ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, and protecting public property remain among its top priorities.
