Punjab pays Rs63.7 million to 164 citizens on Ombudsman orders

The Punjab government has paid long-pending financial dues amounting to Rs63.7 million to 164 citizens on the Ombudsman’s orders. The released amounts are related to educational scholarships, marriage grants, death grants, leave encashment, family pensions, group insurance, financial assistance and other pending government liabilities. The affected citizens had approached the Ombudsman’s Office after facing delays or denial of payments by the departments concerned. Taking prompt notice of the complaints, the Ombudsman Punjab issued directives to the relevant departments, which resulted in the disbursement of Rs22.1 million to 21 citizens in arrears pertaining to pending dues in various departments, Rs2.27 million to five citizens as family pension, and Rs1.56 million to seven citizens as death grant. Furthermore, Rs14.45 million was paid to 57 citizens as marriage grants, Rs1.45 million to 22 citizens in educational scholarships, Rs2.6 million to 12 citizens as financial assistance, and Rs14.4 million to 29 citizens from the GP Fund. In addition, Rs1.75 million was disbursed to five citizens as leave encashment, Rs1.2 million to three citizens as group insurance, and Rs1.87 million to three citizens in connection with OSD posts. Moreover, 23 complainants were appointed to their government jobs under Section 17-A. The beneficiaries thanked the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab for the timely redressal of their grievances and the prompt release of their dues, appreciating the institution’s commitment to ensuring administrative justice and public service delivery.
