Punjab retrieves state land worth Rs55.7 million from encroachers

On the orders of the Office of the Ombudsman, Punjab, 2,250 kanals of state land have been retrieved from illegal occupants. The market value of the recovered land exceeds Rs55.7 million. The land, which belongs to various government departments, had been illegally encroached upon, with unauthorised commercial buildings constructed on the said land. Investigations revealed that the departments concerned had been trying to evict the illegal occupants. Subsequently, it was on the orders of the Provincial Ombudsman of Punjab that the land was retrieved. Before the retrieval of the land, the demarcation was carried out in accordance with the law. The Ombudsman Punjab directed that all measures be taken so that the said retrieved land is not re-encroached upon in future. This action is another example of the Ombudsman Punjab’s impartial and result-oriented stance against encroachments and misuse of public land.
