Light to moderate rain with snowfall over the hills is predicted in parts of Pakistan from January 31 to February 3, with occasional breaks. Synoptic Situation: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave will likely approach western and northern parts of Pakistan on Friday, January 30 (evening). It will likely persist till February 3. Forecast: Under the influence of this weather system, cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and snowfall over the hills is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhnuti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur) from January 31 to February 3 with occasional breaks. Rain with snowfall is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Bunner, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Kurram and Waziristan) during the period. Light rain is also expected in Islamabad, Potohar region, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, and Gujranwala. Light rain with snowfall is also expected in Murree and Galiyat. Light to moderate rain with snowfall is expected in northern Balochistan (Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, and Harnai) from January 31 to February 1. Impacts: Snowfall may cause slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh and Haveli and in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai and Zhob. There are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Tourists are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Day temperatures are likely to drop during the period.
