2026-01-26 - 06:54
LAHORE – The School Education Department in Punjab has revealed that timings for educational institutions will be revised during holy month of Ramadan 2026. The department used to reduce the school hours in order to provide relief to students, teachers and other staff during the month when fasting is observed from dawn to dusk. Ramadan 2026 in Pakistan is likely to begin on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, or Thursday, February 19, 2026, depending on the sighting of the moon. Expected School Timings in Ramadan 2026 It is expected that regular schools will operate from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays. For double shift schools, the first shift will run from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, while the second shift will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with Friday timings adjusted to 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Regular Schools (Monday to Thursday): 8:30 am to 1:00 pm Regular Schools (Friday): 8:30 am to 12:30 pm Double Shift Schools: Shift 1: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm Shift 2: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (Friday: 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm) Currently, the school hours are observed from 8:45 am to 1:30 pm and the School Education Department has extended the current schedule through April 15. Despite the revised timing being in place for a while, parents have raised concerns, stating that the late start at 8:45 am is too inconvenient, especially now that the smog levels have decreased. They have urged the authorities to reconsider and make immediate changes to the timings. However, despite these calls for adjustment, the School Education Department has yet to implement any new strategies to address the issue of school timings.
