Ramazan package

2026-02-16 - 00:36

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Ramazan relief package aimed at supporting millions of deserving families across the country. The Rs38 billion package will be disbursed through digital banking channels. At a time when inflationary pressures continue to weigh heavily on household budgets, such measures carry both economic and moral significance. The enhancement of relief amount for each deserving family from five thousand rupees last year to thirteen thousand rupees is indeed significant. This increase is not merely a numerical adjustment, it represents a meaningful attempt to cushion vulnerable segments of society against rising costs. For families struggling to make ends meet, especially during Ramazan when expenditures on food and essential items typically increase, this enhanced support will indeed provide much-needed solace and dignity. With Ramazan just round the corner, the timely transfer of funds assumes critical importance. The government has pledged to disburse the money directly into digital wallets and bank accounts without delay. It is imperative that this commitment is honoured in both letter and in spirit so that beneficiaries can make their necessary purchases in advance and avoid the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany last-minute arrangements. At the same time, it must be ensured that no deserving family is left out. Experience shows that many eligible individuals fail to receive such assistance due to lack of awareness, documentation issues or procedural hurdles. A comprehensive outreach campaign, clear communication and responsive grievance redressal mechanisms are essential to ensure inclusivity. Relief measures achieve their true purpose only when they reach every intended household without discrimination. Finally, while direct financial assistance is vital, it cannot be a substitute for effective market regulation during Ramazan. It is always seen that prices substantially go up before and during Ramazan. The government must remain vigilant against profiteers who exploit increased demand to inflate prices. Essential commodities must remain within the reach of common man and strict, immediate action should be taken against those who attempt to rob consumers during this sacred month.
