2026-02-23 - 18:03

In the aftermath of rising incidents of suicide attempts, a committee headed by Prof Faiza Athar will provide counselling to students of the Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC). Under this initiative, a team of expert psychiatrists and psychologists will be available on a daily basis to provide guidance and professional support to the students. AMC Principal Prof Farooq Afzal highlighted that the primary objective of this step is to provide a safe and supportive academic environment, enabling future doctors to effectively manage stress and prevent burnout. He noted that the rigorous nature of medical education demands a robust support system to counter the challenges of academic pressure and social stigma surrounding mental health. The Principal stated that medical students are a national asset and their mental well-being is the top priority. He urged teachers and parents to remain vigilant regarding signs of isolation or distress in youth, stressing that institutional support is crucial for those navigating a demanding career path. He encouraged students to speak up and seek help, asserting that reaching out is a sign of courage and self-awareness rather than weakness. Committee to probe harassment of female doctor at LGH
