RIYADH – The Saudi Cabinet has approved an agreement with the Government of Qatar to establish an electric high-speed railway link connecting the two countries. The decision was made during a Cabinet session held in Riyadh earlier this week, chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. Under the agreement, a 785-kilometer electric high-speed railway line will connect Riyadh and Doha. The trains operating on the line are expected to travel at speeds exceeding 300 kilometers per hour, significantly enhancing transportation between the two capitals. The project will also link key stations, including Dammam and Al-Ahsa, and is expected to reduce travel time between Riyadh and Doha to approximately two hours. At the beginning of the session, the Cabinet was briefed on a recent telephone conversation between Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Cabinet was also informed about the Crown Prince’s meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during official visits. Members of the Cabinet praised the positive outcomes of these visits, noting that they reflect the strengthening of bilateral relations and a shared commitment to further enhancing cooperation at all levels.
