ISLAMABAD – Shockwaves rippled through Gulf after drones once again targeted fuel storage facilities at Duqm Commercial Port in Oman, striking at the heart of one of the country’s most critical energy hubs. Multiple drones were launched at the port’s fuel tanks, with one making a direct hit. The impact sparked immediate concern, but authorities said the resulting damage was swiftly contained, and there were no injuries in the latest strike. The assault comes on the heels of an earlier drone strike on the same port, underscoring a troubling escalation. On Sunday, two drones targeted Duqm in what was described as the first such attack on Omani territory since Iran began its retaliatory campaign across the Gulf. In that incident, one drone slammed into a mobile accommodation unit housing foreign workers, injuring one person. Debris from a second drone fell near fuel tanks but did not cause additional casualties or material damage. These back-to-back strikes unfold against the backdrop of intensifying hostilities involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, as the region grapples with a widening wave of retaliatory attacks. For years, Oman has walked a careful diplomatic tightrope, positioning itself as a neutral mediator and facilitating indirect nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Until now, it had largely avoided becoming a direct target amid regional turmoil. Duqm is southeastern coastline on the Arabian Sea, and is strategic commercial and industrial powerhouse, home to major energy and logistics infrastructure. Airstrikes continue to hit military sites in Tehran and Beirut, escalating regional tensions. There are also drone attacks on US Embassy in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, though details remain uncertain. Iranian media alleged an attack destroyed US base in Bahrain, a claim not independently confirmed. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that harsher actions against Iran may still come. Meanwhile, an Iranian official threatened to target any ship entering the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about disruptions to global energy supplies.
