Security high alert amid current situation at Pakistan-Afghanistan border

LAHORE – The security is high alert across the country amid the current border situation at Pakistan and Afghanistan border, the sources close to the development said on Friday. The police chiefs of all provinces and states have directed for strict security measures amid the current sitaution. The other law enforcement agencies are also holding proper coordination about security. The Punjab has also expedited the deportation process of illegally residing foreign nationals across the province. A spokesperson for the Punjab Police said that a total of 32,588 illegal foreign nationals, including Afghan nationals, have been deported from various districts, including Lahore. Another 90 individuals are currently present at designated holding centres awaiting repatriation. The deported individuals comprise 12,273 men, 6,661 women and 13,654 children. Officials said 10,419 of those deported possessed proof of residence, 11,098 were holders of Afghan Citizen Cards, while 11,071 were categorised as illegal foreign residents. Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem stated that security measures have been heightened across the province and directed law enforcement agencies to ensure the removal of all illegally residing persons. He added that the repatriation process is being carried out in line with relevant international laws and government policy. It may be mentioned here that Afghans citizens were found involved in the recent terror activities including the suicide attack inside an imambargah in Islamabad during Friday prayers.
