WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has brought the Big Tech companies to sign a Ratepayer Protection Pledge in order to keep down the electricity prices for household users. The development comes amid the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran, sparking speculation that these measures may be intended to divert public attention from the military escalation, which has reportedly resulted in over $2 billion in losses. “We’re here this afternoon for a historic signing that will help keep down your utility bills... Big Tech companies are committing to FULLY cover the cost of increased electricity production required for AI data centers,” the White House said in a statement on X. Reason Behind the Move “President Donald J. Trump brought the leading AI companies and hyperscalers together to sign the pledge, ensuring they protect Americans from electricity price hikes due to data center energy requirements now and in the long run, take action to further strengthen the grid, and ensure that all Americans benefit from the oncoming technological boom,” read the official statement issued by the White House. Under President Trump’s administration, major tech companies, including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI, pledged to protect American ratepayers by committing to build, purchase, or develop new energy generation sources. They also agreed to bear the costs for any necessary upgrades to power delivery infrastructure required for their data centers, ensuring these expenses are not passed on to US households. As part of the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, these companies will negotiate separate power agreements with utilities and state authorities. They have committed to covering the costs of energy and infrastructure needed to support their data centers, regardless of whether they fully utilize the electricity generated.
