WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s missile programme poses a serious threat to European nations and American military installations in the region, asserting that Tehran is developing missiles that could eventually reach the United States. Delivering his State of the Union address, Trump said the United States had destroyed Iran’s nuclear facilities and subsequently cautioned Tehran against pursuing nuclear weapons again. He stressed that Washington wants firm assurances that Iran will not develop nuclear arms. The US president reiterated that his administration believes in “peace through strength,” while maintaining that a diplomatic solution to the Iran issue remains the preferred course. He said efforts were underway to negotiate a deal with Tehran. During his speech, Trump also referred to tensions between Pakistan and India, claiming credit once again for preventing a potential war between the two nuclear-armed countries. He said the situation could have escalated into a nuclear conflict had timely intervention not taken place. Highlighting his foreign policy achievements in his first State of the Union address of his second term, Trump claimed he had helped end eight conflicts globally. He cited efforts to de-escalate tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, Israel and Iran, as well as conflicts in Congo and Rwanda. He also maintained that he played a key role in preventing war between Pakistan and India. Trump further said that Pakistan’s prime minister had acknowledged his intervention, stating that millions of lives were saved and that without US involvement, large-scale casualties could have occurred. Referring to the Middle East, US President Donald Trump said he had facilitated an end to the war in Gaza and secured the return of all living hostages under a ceasefire arrangement. He added that the remains of 28 deceased hostages were also recovered, claiming cooperation between Hamas and Israel in the process. He added that the efforts are continuing to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Indian PM Modi arrives in Israel on two-day official visit amid US-Iran tensions
