U19 World Cup: Pakistan begin preparations for Super Six stage

2026-01-25 - 21:06

Pakistan U19, after qualifying for the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, took part in a training session at the Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare on Sunday. The players participated in scenario-based match practice, where batters and bowlers were assigned different targets to achieve. The team will continue training at the same venue on Monday before beginning their Super Six campaign on Tuesday. Pakistan will face New Zealand in their opening Super Six fixture on Tuesday, January 27, at the Harare Sports Club. The Farhan Yousaf-led side will then take on India in their second and final Super Six match at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday, February 1. Pakistan finished second in Group C after wins over Scotland (by six wickets) and Zimbabwe (by eight wickets), while they suffered a 37-run defeat against England. England topped the group by winning all three matches, while Zimbabwe finished third and also qualified for the Super Six stage. Mansoor Amjad said: “Our fielding standards have been very encouraging. The number of catches taken, especially at crucial moments, reflects the hard work put in by the players. Alongside that, the players have saved valuable runs, which has made a significant difference for the team. “Before the start of the World Cup, we collectively decided to build a strong fielding culture based on fearlessness and complete focus. The players were encouraged to field without hesitation and to remain fully present in every situation. When you expect the ball to come to you every time, it keeps you switched on and sharp in the field. “We are fortunate to have a group of naturally skilled fielders who are quick to adapt and eager to improve. The players regularly discuss areas where improvement is needed and respond positively to feedback, which is reflected in their performances on the field. “Every catch taken at a crucial stage is important for me. Ahmed Hussain has been outstanding with his catching, not only in the World Cup but also in carrying his form from the Asia Cup and the tri-nation series. Farhan, Usman Khan and Sameer Minhas have also displayed excellent fielding, while the wicket-keeper has taken some exceptional catches.” Pakistan unveil 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2026
