UK Parliament endorses Dr. Shoaib Suddle in Key Minority Rights Initiative

LONDON – UK Parliament welcomed Supreme Court of Pakistan’s appointment of Dr. Shoaib Suddle to chair a new commission tasked with ensuring the implementation of the landmark 2014 ruling (PLD 2014 SC 699) to protect the rights of religious minorities in Pakistan. In a motion signed by 20 Members of Parliament, lawmakers expressed confidence in Dr. Suddle, describing him as a man of integrity and impartiality, capable of carrying out this critically important work. The motion also pledged full cooperation and assistance to Dr. Suddle in matters related to religious freedom. The motion, which has not yet seen any amendments, signals strong support from the UK Parliament for initiatives aimed at safeguarding minority rights in Pakistan and emphasizes Dr. Suddle’s central role in the effort. The motion was led by prominent group of Northern Irish and English parliamentarians. Leading the charge as the primary sponsor was Jim Shannon. He was joined by Paul Girvan (South Antrim), David Simpson (Upper Bann), and Sir Jeffrey M. Donaldson (Lagan Valley), the party’s longtime Westminster leader. Rounding out the core sponsors were Gavin Robinson, from Belfast East and a barrister by trade, and Mr Jim Cunningham, the veteran Labour MP for Coventry South.
