LAHORE – In a significant reshuffle within the Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar has been removed from his position as the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police. Rao Abdul Kareem, a seasoned officer with extensive experience in the police service, has been appointed as the new IG Punjab. Reports said the decision to replace Dr Usman Anwar was made after a review of administrative positions in the province. Reports further indicate that his new posting could be as the Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The possibility of Dr. Anwar being appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior is also under consideration due to his wide-ranging experience, particularly in the FIA. Rao Abdul Kareem, who belongs to the 24th Common Batch of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), will assume office as the new IG Punjab after the federal cabinet grants formal approval. Rao Abdul Kareem is a well-respected officer who joined the police force in 1996 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Over the years, he has served in various significant roles, including District Police Officer (DPO) in Jhang, Mianwali, and Kasur.
