COLOMBO – Captain Salman Ali Agha has pinned blames on batters for Pakistan’s defeat in a match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against India. Talking to media, Agha acknowledged that early wickets in the powerplay played a pivotal role in the team’s loss. He added that the team was unable to adjust to the situation, leading to their downfall. India set a target of 176 runs after posting 175/7 in their 20 overs. In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs, falling short by 61 runs. Agha said losing early wickets put immense pressure on the team, and this was a key factor in the loss. “We went in with four spinners, but they had an off day,” Agha explained. “We couldn’t get a good start in the batting department. If you lose 3-4 wickets in the powerplay, it becomes difficult.” He also pointed out that the pitch improved in the second innings, but Pakistan’s bowling lacked adaptability, and their batting couldn’t match the required performance. Agha emphasized the importance of staying calm in high-pressure games, especially against a traditional rival like India. “In these nerve-wracking encounters, handling pressure is crucial,” he said. “Now, our focus must shift to Wednesday’s crucial match against Namibia. We need to win that to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the World Cup.” It is now critical for Pakistan to win their final group match against Namibia to stay in contention for a spot in the Super 8s. If Namibia pulls off an upset, Pakistan will be eliminated from the race for the Super 8 stage.
