Just days after Lahore hosted the highly anticipated Basant festival in early February 2026, marking its return after a 25-year hiatus, rumors and growing expectations are suggesting that another celebration will take place in March, following Eidul Fitr, due to the overwhelming response to the inaugural event. Amid rumors circulating on social media about the Punjab government’s plans to announce another Basant celebration in Lahore next month, the All Pakistan Kite Flying Association (APMBA) has expressed optimism about holding Basant again in March, following the success and safety of the recent event. APMBA’s Patron-in-Chief, Aqeel Malik, highlighted the cultural and economic success of the recent Basant celebration, which revived Lahore’s lost cultural festival and generated over Rs20 billion in economic activity across the city. During a press conference in Lahore, Malik credited Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the government’s support, which was crucial in restoring the festival. He emphasized that Basant was not only a cultural celebration but also a significant economic driver, benefiting local businesses, transport services, and small traders. He further stated that nearly 900,000 vehicles from different cities visited Lahore during the festival, reflecting the scale of participation. Additionally, around 200,000 citizens enjoyed free public transport, including the Orange Line Metro and Metro Bus, showcasing effective transport management during the event. Malik also praised the strict adherence to safety protocols, which played a vital role in preventing accidents. Notably, no incidents of kite string injuries were reported, and safety rods installed on motorcycles helped prevent accidents, ensuring a safe environment for participants. He expressed confidence that Basant will be held again in March with improved regulations and enhanced safety measures.
